A canyon caught fire Wednesday along Highway 52 in Clairemont, but flames were quickly extinguished before any damage was done to neighboring homes, authorities said.

The canyon along eastbound Highway 52, just east of Genesee Avenue, caught fire at around 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Firefighters from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department cleared the scene at 9:19 a.m., according to a department dispatcher.

The blaze scorched about 25 yards of vegetation, he said, adding that no one was hurt.
