$11,500 Offered To Find Synagogue Vandals

UPDATED: 5:42 am PDT September 3, 2008

Authorities searched Wednesday for whoever painted a swastika on a wall outside a North County synagogue over the holiday weekend in the third such incident since April.

The vandalism at Ner Tamid, a Conservative temple at 15318 Pomerado Road in Poway, was discovered Saturday night, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported.

Whoever targeted the synagogue used blue paint to draw a swastika and the number 14 on a stand-alone wall bearing the temple's name.

"This is the third vandalism at the location since 4-26-08," said a Sheriff's Department statement. "In each incident similar symbols were used. The symbols represent white supremacist ideology."

The latest defacement occurred sometime between 2 and 11 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's Detective Norman Hubbert said.

San Diego County Crime Stoppers, the Anti-Defamation League and the Hate Crimes Reward Fund have jointly offered a reward totaling $11,500 for information leading to an arrest in the case, according to Hubbert.
