SAN DIEGO -- Caltrans announced Thursday the allocation of $190 million in transportation funding for projects across the state, including one near Chula Vista.Among the disbursements earmarked as part of a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond is $718,000 to improve the timing of 14 traffic signals on streets in Bonita, south of State Route 54 and east of Interstate 805.The synchronization is intended to reduce congestion and improve air quality by better managing the flow of traffic, according to Caltrans.
The allocations are contingent upon passage of a 2008-09 state budget. Depending on the handling of transportation funds in the spending blueprint, some of the disbursements could be withdrawn.
