SAN DIEGO -- Thirty-one rabbits found roaming a Mira Mesa home amid unsanitary conditions will be put up for adoption on Saturday, county animal control officials said Wednesday. The rabbits, which were seized by animal control workers, were not caged, and their food had been defecated and urinated on by other animals, according to the San Diego County Department of Animal Services.Several of the rabbits have also since given birth.
The rabbits will be put up for adoption at 4 p.m. Saturday at the House Rabbit Society Adoption Center, 4805 Mercury St., Suite C. The fee to adopt a rabbit is $25, or $35 for two."People don't realize what great companions rabbits can make," said Dawn Danielson, director of the county Department of Animal Services. "They are especially wonderful for apartments or condos because they virtually make no noise."All the rabbits have been spayed or neutered and are trained to use a litter box, according to the county.
