UPDATED: 6:01 pm PDT August 13, 2008

Vice President Dick Cheney arrived at Camp Pendleton Wednesday afternoon and planned to attend a political fundraiser in Orange County this evening.

Cheney arrived at the North County Marine Corps base about 2:30 p.m. to tour the base's facilities.

He was slated to depart from Pendleton at 7:45 p.m. to attend a reception for Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona, at a private home in San Clemente.

Calvert, a seven-term congressman, is up for re-election in November. He represents the 44th Congressional District, which includes parts of Riverside County and the southern portion of Orange County.

Prior to arriving in Southern California, Cheney attended a fundraiser for a congresswoman in Littleton, Colo.
