A San Marcos man was hospitalized Thursday for serious injuries that he suffered when the golf cart he was driving was struck by a Buick sedan, authorities said.

Henry Martin was driving a golf cart across eastbound South Rancho Santa Fe Road around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday when it was struck by a 1995 Buick Century, San Diego County sheriff's Deputy Tammy Bennetts said.

Upon impact, Martin fell out of the cart's driver seat and was dragged a short distance, she said.

Paramedics took Martin to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was admitted with serious injuries, Bennetts said.

The Buick's driver, Kelvin Higgins, was not hurt.
