Suspect In DUI Double Fatal Pleads Not Guilty

EL CAJON, Calif. -- A man accused of killing two people in Julian this week and injuring another while driving drunk appeared in court Friday in El Cajon.Shannon Shimp faces two counts of vehicular manslaughter, and driving while under the influence.The father of Ian Kinney, one of the men killed in the accident, was in court today, too, and he spoke to 10News.Prosecutors say Shimp was the driver of a truck that killed 19-year-old Ian Kinney, and 52-year-old Joseph Edwards Tuesday outside Ramona.Kinney's mother and father wanted to see Shimp in person in court, even though they knew they couldn't say anything to him."This is his birth announcement that a friend of ours made with a poem and his baby picture," said Debbie Kinney.It was just one of the many items Kinney's mother took to court for the man who is accused of killing her son to see."And his Memorial announcement. I hope he's there so I can give him one," Debbie Kinney said.Knowing they wouldn't be able to speak to Shimp, the Kinney's said they hope that he hears their message loud and clear."I hope the pain I feel, I hope you feel the same level of pain the rest of your life," said Scott Kinney, Ian’s father.Words that will be forever etched on Ian's urn Read: “Our fallen star, Ian Christopher Kinney.”Ian's father wants everyone to know, a crash caused from drunk driving is not an accident."This was not an accident that happened.
