CCDC President Resigns Abruptly

POSTED: 6:57 pm PDT July 24, 2008
UPDATED: 8:10 pm PDT July 24, 2008

The president of the Centre City Development Corp. announced Thursday her resignation from the downtown San Diego redevelopment agency, effective immediately.

Nancy Graham cited personal family reasons for her departure.

"We recognize that family comes first and we fully support her decision to attend to family matters at this time," Fred Maas, chairman of CCDC board, said in a statement.

Graham, the former mayor of West Palm Beach, Fla., was named president of CCDC in 2005.

She has come under scrutiny recently for her relationship with a developer building a skyscraper downtown.

Her resignation comes one day after trustees of the Southeastern Economic Development Corp. fired longtime president Carolyn Smith, whose termination came after it was revealed top executives with the agency received bonuses above what was budgeted.

Both agencies act as redevelopment arms for the city of San Diego.
