EL CAJON, Calif. -- About the only way anyone in America could get their hands on Nissan's supercar was in a video game. The technologically advanced performance wonder car was developed in Japan under the name of Skyline, but was never available in the U.S.Now, it is available, and Mossy Nissan in El Cajon rolled it out of its showroom for 10News.
"Nissan hand builds every single one of these cars, which is then individually tested on the track before it's shipped out," said David Talman of Mossy Nissan. From the tuned exhaust to the vented disc brakes, it is a race car built for the street and, some said, a car that is not for everyone. It's perfect for a car enthusiast like Tom Hoban."It has a lot of the things a Ferrari would have," said Hoban.Hoban would know, as he just sold his Ferrari and plans to step into a GT-R."I'm hoping to replace the Ferrari with this car. With the F-1 transmission and it's a four-seater; and that's also exciting because I can bring other people with me," said Hoban. For Hoban, it's the nearly 500 horsepower under the hood, the state-of-the-art electronics and the Ferrari-like paddle-shift transmission."Once you drive an F-1 transmission you're not going to want anything else," said Hoban.Fuel economy is not a concern for many, but it isn't bad considering the style of car and the smog index does beat other new cars. There are only 2 Nissan GT-R cars available in San Diego County, as Nissan plans to release them sparingly.Nissan said there will only be 1,500 available for the entire U.S.
