Harbor Police Rescue Man From His Burning Boat

A boater was able to escape unscathed Thursday when his cabin cruiser caught fire during an outing on San Diego Bay, authorities reported.The blaze on the 36-foot pleasure craft erupted for unknown reasons just south of the Coronado Bridge about 5:15 p.m., according to U.S. Coast Guard officials.San Diego Harbor Police officers got the man off his burning boat, then extinguished the fire with help from personnel aboard a Navy tug, USCG Lt. Josh Nelson said.
The scorched boat, which was leaking but still afloat, was then towed to shore, Nelson said.The blaze resulted in no known leak of fuel or other chemicals into the harbor, the lieutenant added.
