Some downtown San Diego residents were displaced Tuesday morning when a water leak sprung on the sixth floor of a high-rise condominium complex and quickly spread to the ground floor, authorities said.

A major flooding incident at the Treo complex at India and A streets was reported around 3 a.m., according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher.

The water sprang from lines that supply an air conditioning unit, the dispatcher said.

About $200,000 in damage was caused to multiple units and common areas before firefighters could respond and shut off the water, she said.
