SAN DIEGO -- A dolphin spotted floating off Pacific Beach by boaters Thursday clearly showed evidence of back problems in video from Sky10.

Lifeguards, alerted to the animals plight, called experts at SeaWorld to evaluate the animal, lifeguard officials told 10News.

Marine mammal experts told 10News the dolphin appeared to be suffering from a Scoliosis-like condition and did not appear to have been injured by a boat.

Because of that, SeaWorld cannot assist the dolphin, Lifeguard officials said. "SeaWorld cannot take the dolphin out of the water due to it being a naturally caused incident," Lt. John Greenhalgh said.

If the dolphin beaches itself, Lifeguards and SeaWorld can step in to help it, Greenhalgh said.

The Marine Mammal Protection Act prevents any action on behalf of the dophin in this case, government officials said.
