A 2-alarm fire at a Rescue Mission warehouse sent heavy smoke through the City Heights area Tuesday night and injured one firefighter who suffered burns.

The fire began shortly after 7 o’clock at the warehouse building near 52nd and University Avenue in City Heights.

About 60 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in what appeared to be a mostly empty warehouse building, a Fire department dispatcher said.

The fire was reported at 7:16 p.m. in the 4000 block of 52nd Street, the dispatcher said.

The fire was mostly out about a half-hour later, the dispatcher said.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.

Damage was estimated at $850,000.
