SAN DIEGO -- More than 2,000 children and parents attended a child safety fair Sunday in memory of Danielle van Dam, 10News reported.

The event offered games and music, mixed with child safety workshops teaching kids how to escape danger.

'Day For Danielle'

Parents could get child identification cards, which include the child's picture, fingerprints, weight and height on one card.

"The card has all of the pertinent information. You can give the card to mall security, a police officer or whomever that could immediately start looking for the child," said child safety expert, Denise Mueller.

This comes as a comfort to Valerie Ricks, who since Danielle's death, has had to lay down some tough rules for her kids.

"I just told my oldest daughter, Brittany, more or less not to talk to strangers and don't be friendly to anybody," Ricks said.

Many people said that they came to the event to show their support, including one of the jurors who served on the David Westerfield trial.

"I've spoken to quite a few people today and it makes me feel good that people are so kind and loving," Brenda van Dam told 10News.
