A bicyclist suffered serious injuries Tuesday in a collision with a catering truck at a Carmel Valley intersection, authorities reported.

The 37-year-old man was pedaling to the west in a bike lane alongside state Route 56 when he ran a red light and crossed into the path of the commercial vehicle at Carmel Valley Road about 6:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Medics took the bicyclist to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of serious facial cuts and other injuries, SDPD Sgt. Garry Collins said.
