Escondido police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead. It is the second such shooting in less than 24 hours in the North County city.

Escondido police say a man was shot in the head after an argument in an alley near Second Avenue and Ash Street. It happened at around 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

"(The) victim used to live in the area. We understand now that he may live in San Diego,” Escondido Police Lt. Craig Carter said Saturday evening.

The victim’s identity won’t be released until his family is notified.

According to police the shooter was last seen driving away from the scene in a maroon truck, possibly a Ford F-150, with a white toll box in the bed. He is described as a Hispanic in his 40s with a mustache. He is about 5 feet 6 inches’ tall and weights about 220 pounds. At the time of the shooting he was wearing a bright green shirt.

Earlier Saturday, Eduardo Aranda, 15, of Escondido, was killed in a drive-by shooting. He was walking northbound on Spruce Street near Seventh Avenue about 12:30 a.m. when a small red car drove up next to him and someone opened fire, according to Escondido police Lt. Bob Benton.

Police are encouraging anyone with information to either shooting to contact them by calling their anonymous tip line at (760) 743-8477 or via their Web site at www.escondido.org/police.
