Car Strikes Three At PB Farmers Market

SAN DIEGO -- Three people were injured Saturday when they were struck by a vehicle at a Pacific Beach farmers market, according to police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.The accident took place about 10:40 a.m. at a parking lot in the 4100 block of Mission Boulevard, at Pacific Beach Drive, a San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatcher said.The injured, who were taken to Scripps La Jolla hospital, included a 70-year-old man with a broken leg, San Diego police Sgt. Gary Collins said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was not under arrest at this time, Collins said.No further information was immediately available.In July 2003, 10 people were killed and 63 injured when an out-of-control car smashed through a farmers market in Santa Monica. That city had to pay a portion of a $21 million lawsuit settlement based on claims that the market was not barricaded from traffic.
