Mother Pleads Not Guilty To Poisoning Toddler

VISTA, Calif. -- Authorities say a woman accused of twice trying to poison her 23-month-old son with a caustic chemical has pleaded not guilty to child abuse and poisoning charges.A prosecutor says Christina Howell faces more than eleven years in state prison if convicted.The prosecutor told the judge that the boy was first hospitalized May 25th for a report of accidental ingestion of Tilex Mold & Mildew Remover.The boy was released the next day, but hospitalized again May 28th for severe vomiting and seizures.Doctors say the boy suffered severe chemical burns to his throat, esophagus and stomach.Doctor say the the injury will require multiple surgeries and will cause permanent damage.Howell is being held on $300,000 bail.
