UPDATED: 8:25 am PDT June 20, 2008

A man was shot in the face Friday in North Park but his wound was not life-threatening, police said.

A patrol officer spoke to the man, who was walking eastbound in the 3500 block of Orange Avenue, shortly before 2 a.m. and the two then parted ways, said San Diego police Sgt. Alan Hayward.

The officer reported hearing two gunshots a few minutes later and said he found the man near Cherokee and Orange avenues with a gunshot wound to his face, Hayward said.

He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds and told police he was shot by a man who was accompanied by two women, Hayward said.

No other information was immediately released.
