SAN DIEGO -- A motorcyclist was injured Monday in a San Pasqual-area traffic accident that shut down a stretch of State Route 78 for about an hour, authorities said.

The collision, which sent the motorcycle rider sliding underneath a big rig, occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. near Orosco Guejito Truck Trail, about five miles east of the San Diego Wild Animal Park, according to police.

Officers shut down both lanes of the highway in the area while medics prepared the motorcyclist for transport to a hospital, the California Highway Patrol reported. The rider was conscious when emergency crews arrived and apparently had suffered minor to moderately serious injuries.

Police reopened the eastbound lane of the route around 1 p.m. and removed the roadblocks from the other side about a half-hour later.
