SAN DIEGO -- A California State University San Marcos student has not been seen since last week, police said Monday.
Alex Ryan Zingaro, 22 (pictured, left), was scheduled to attend a school orientation Wednesday morning, then start a new job, said Carlsbad police Lt. Howard Carpenter. Zingaro called both school and work and said he would be late, but he never showed up at either place, Carpenter said, adding that he was last seen by his roommate on Wednesday. The missing man left his school books, clothes, surfboard, wet suit and toothbrush in his Carlsbad apartment, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. "As a parent, it's your worst nightmare come true," Zingaro's mother, Patti Zingaro, told the newspaper. "I have no idea what could have happened to him. He was excited about his new job. He was excited about starting classes." Zingaro moved to Carlsbad in May from Lake Tahoe and was recently hired as a waiter at Tony Roma's restaurant in San Marcos, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. A snow boarder and surfer, Zingaro is a junior majoring in communications. He is described as white, 5 feet 11 inches, weighs about 175 pounds and has wavy brown hair with blond tips and blue-green eyes. Al Zingaro, his father, told The San Diego Union-Tribune that he has checked his son's bank account and that there has been no activity since he disappeared. Also missing is Zingaro's vehicle, a blue 1989 Mazda pickup with a camper shell, California license plate number 5U57091. Anyone with information on Zingaro's whereabouts is asked to call the Carlsbad Police Department at (760) 931-2197.
