Three longtime members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors are up for re-election Tuesday, but if history is any indication, their jobs are likely secure for another term.

No incumbent supervisor in San Diego County has lost a re-election bid in more than two decades.

Howard Johnson, an imaging technician and 20-year Navy veteran, is running against Supervisor Greg Cox in District 1, which includes much of the South Bay and San Diego's beach communities. Cox has held the seat since 1995.

Also on the ballot is real estate broker Petra Barajas.

In District 2, Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who has been in office 16 years, is being challenged by archaeologist Rudy Reyes, who was badly burned during 2003's Cedar fire while trying to flee his Wildcat Canyon home.

The district includes much of San Diego's East County including, Poway, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Santee, parts of San Diego, Campo, Jacumba, Jamul, Julian, Lakeside and Spring Valley.

Supervisor Pam Slater-Prices, who also has held her seat 16 years, is being challenged by engineer John Van Doorn in District 3, which includes Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido, Solana Beach, Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch and Tierrasanta.

Van Doorn often speaks at Board of Supervisors meetings on battles he has had with the county's Child Protective Services.
