Dr. Seuss Among Locals Added To Calif. Hall Of Fame

POSTED: 1:06 pm PDT May 28, 2008

The late author Ted Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, and renowned chemist Linus Pauling are among 12 people named Wednesday to the California Hall of Fame.

Joining them in the 2008 class are actress Jane Fonda, actor Jack Nicholson and legendary fitness expert Jack LaLanne. A ceremony in Sacramento is set for December.

Geisel was a longtime La Jolla resident, and his works are on display in a library at UC San Diego.

Pauling, a professor at UCSD during the 1960s, won two Nobel prizes and was a noted anti-nuclear weapons activist.

"I have always believed that the greatest strength of California is our people, so it's an honor for me to showcase these Californians, whose achievements are legendary, in the California Hall of Fame, " Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said.

Also named to the Hall of Fame were musicians Dave Brubeck and Quincy Jones, sculptor Robert Graham, photographer Dorothea Lange, architect Julia Morgan, business tycoon Leland Stanford and chef Alice Waters.
