SAN DIEGO -- Scattered rain and thunderstorms Thursday in northern and eastern San Diego caused flash floods, and lightning sparked brush fires, authorities reported. The rain was heavy in spots but "very localized," said Stan Wasowski, a forecaster for the National Weather Service."There'll be other places that don't get anything at all," he said.
Lightning ignited "numerous" brush fires in the county's eastern highlands, but they were quickly extinguished, said Cal Fire spokesman Nick Schuler.Flooding was reported on several back-county routes, including Julian and Black Canyon roads, and State Route 76 on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. The rain will likely subside this afternoon, but "there's more to come" over the next few days, Wasowski said.Meantime, a high-surf advisory is in effect through 1 a.m. Friday.
