A total of 85 teens were arrested in a daylong truancy sweep in Chula Vista, National City and south San Diego, police said Thursday.

The sweep was conducted Wednesday by the Chula Vista, National City and San Diego police departments, San Diego probation officers and the Sweetwater Union High School District, said Chula Vista police spokesman Bernard Gonzalez.

Teens who were found out of school without a valid reason were arrested and taken to the Sweetwater district office for processing, he said.

During processing, teens had their school attendance records reviewed, resulting in the majority of those arrested being referred to the School Attendance Review Board for chronic absences, according to Gonzalez.
