A 21-year-old Marine was found dead in his barracks, authorities said Thursday.

Corp. Chad E. Oligschlaegar of Austin, Texas, was found Tuesday in his barracks at Twentynine Palms, said 1st Lt. Curtis Williamson, a Camp Pendleton spokesman.

Base medics declared him dead at the scene, Williamson said, noting that the cause of death was under investigation.

Oligschlaegar was a mortarman with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He joined the Marines in July 2004 and was twice deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
