MIRAMAR, Calif. -- Firefighters at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar plan to take advantage of cooler weather Thursday and Friday to conduct controlled burns on the east side of the sprawling base.Smoke coming from the East Elliott area of the base, east of Interstate 15 and north of Highway 52, is likely to be visible to freeway drivers but shouldn't have an impact on traffic, Cpl. Brandon Roach said.
The burns are part of an annual program, Roach said, adding that if the weather does not cooperate Thursday and Friday, firefighters will try again on Sunday.
