Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run ID'd

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. -- Authorities released the name Tuesday of a pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash on a South Bay street.

A westbound car hit Melvin Meadors, 39, about 11 p.m. Monday after he fell into a traffic lane while walking along Sweetwater Road at Olive Street in the unincorporated Lincoln Acres neighborhood, according to the California Highway Patrol and county Medical Examiner's Office.

Meadors, a National City resident, died at the scene.

The involved motorist was gone by the time emergency crews arrived in the area, CHP Sgt. James Whitney said. There was no description of the vehicle that hit Meadors.
