Two teenage boys were attacked in Bay Terraces by a large group of males who struck them with baseball bats, metal pipes and golf clubs in an apparent gang assault, a San Diego police sergeant said Saturday.

The victims, ages 17 and 18, were attacked at around 10:15 p.m. Friday at 435 Deep Dell Road, Sgt. Richard Nemetz said.

The teens and their attackers exchanged words before the fight started, Nemetz said.

They were taken to a hospital for treatment of head wounds and other injuries, according to the sergeant.

Nemetz said gang detectives are investigating the incident.
