Officer Beaten With Own Flashlight At Party

A San Diego police officer was beaten on the head with her own flashlight while trying to break up a fight at a party in Normal Heights, authorities said.

The fight occurred on Edna Place near 38th Street at about 11:20 p.m. on Friday, and a man suspected in the attack was arrested within a few minutes, said a San Diego police sergeant who didn't want to give his name.

Police responded a "loud party call'' and, when they arrived, a fight among some partygoers broke out, the sergeant said.

When the officer tried to break up the scuffle, her police-issued flashlight apparently fell out, and a man who was being "uncooperative'' picked it up and struck her on the head with it, he said.

She's OK,'' he said. "She's got a bump on her head, and was taken to the hospital, treated and released.''

The suspect, whose name was unavailable early Saturday, would be booked for assaulting a police officer, the sergeant said.
