Fire broke out at two neighboring homes in La Mesa Monday, destroying at least one of them but causing no injuries, authorities said.

The fire in the 5800 block of Dugan Avenue was reported at 2:11 a.m., according to a Heartland fire dispatcher, who said it took 32 firefighters around 40 minutes to control the blaze.

The fire began at one home and spread to the other, the dispatcher said, adding that the cause was under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

A witness said the home where the fire began was fully engulfed with firefighters arrived and was destroyed in the blaze.
