A man was shot six times early Sunday following a confrontation with two men at a downtown nightclub, a San Diego police sergeant said.

The victim was struck five times in the back and once in the chest as he drove along the 400 block of Third Avenue around 2 a.m., but is expected to survive his injuries, Sgt. Richard Nemetz said.

He was with a group of men and women at the Aubergine Club at 500 Fourth Ave. when they had an altercation with the two suspects, Nemetz said.

Later, as the group left and drove away, one of the men walked up to their car and fired the shots, the sergeant said.
