UPDATED: 5:21 pm PDT May 12, 2008

KUSI television reporter Rod Luck was arrested in a San Francisco suburb on suspicion of hitting his girlfriend, 10News reported.

The 42-year-old woman said Luck, 58, punched her in the mouth a little before 8 p.m. Friday, according to a statement from the South San Francisco Police Department.

The woman had visible injuries to her mouth and upper lip, police said.

Luck was arrested and released on his own recognizance from the Redwood City Jail.

Luck and the woman had a dating relationship, police said.

The often flamboyant reporter has been with KUSI since its news department was created in 1990, and is a roving reporter for the "Good Morning San Diego" program, according to the station's Web site. He started as a sports anchor and is credited with starting the station's high school football highlights program.

Luck, who listed a La Jolla address, started his career as a radio disk jockey in 1964 at the age of 16 and became a full-time sports reporter in Montana two years later.

The station had no comment on his arrest.
