Great for groups, corporate volunteers, and families! Volunteers will help out with on-going trail maintenance and trail building as well as resource protection and mitigation projects. Volunteers work on projects in Cuyamaca Rancho or Palomar State Parks under the direction of volunteer supervisors or park maintenance staff. Group size limit is 20.

Habitat Restoration for California Least Tern

Location: Mariner’s Point, Mission Bay MORE INFORMATION: Volunteer to help maintain a nesting site for endangered California Least Terns in Mission Bay. We’ll be working to clear Mariner’s Point of invasive plants so that the birds can use the site for nesting and rearing their young in the spring. Wear work clothes (long pants, long-sleeved shirt, hat, and sturdy shoes) and sunscreen. Snacks and water will be provided. If you have one, feel free to bring your own reusable water bottle to help us reduce paper cup waste. As required by the San Diego Park and Recreation Department, for volunteers 17 and under, a parent or guardian must sign a waiver for each child before the event. Volunteers are needed to join renowned conservationist and naturalist Rob Hutsel of the San Diego River Park Foundation for a 3 mile hike to document recovery and map the arrival of nonnative vegetation since the fires. No experience needed, just an interest in nature and the ability to hike on uneven terrain. This is a wonderful learning opportunity and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in service to the environment.

As part of our ongoing mission to save the San Diego River and its surrounding habitat, volunteers are needed to help remove trash and debris from the riverbed in the Mission Valley Preserve. With the help of thousands of volunteers over the pass 8 years, we have removed over 1,000,000lbs of garbage from the river. Our goal is to have the entire river, one of the most polluted in the nation, cleaned up within a year and we need your help. Groups and people of all ages are welcomed. Over 95% of these habitat areas are now gone due to development. Home to many endangered birds, fish and mammals this area needs your help to remain as a viable habitat area. Activities to include invasive plant removal, native plant rescue, trail maintenance and litter removal. Help us make a difference for the wildlife that can only survive here and nowhere else. Volunteers are needed to join renowned conservationist and naturalist Rob Hutsel of the San Diego River Park Foundation for a 3 mile hike to document recovery and map the arrival of nonnative vegetation since the fires. No experience needed, just an interest in nature and the ability to hike on uneven terrain. This is a wonderful learning opportunity and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in service to the environment.
