Police: Man Used Mace In Game Store Robbery

A man was jailed Tuesday after allegedly dousing clerks with Mace at a Mira Mesa shop and stealing several video games -- including "Grand Theft Auto IV," which had been on store shelves less than 12 hours.

Dennis Fiel, 27, allegedly entered The Game Stop in the 8100 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard about 10:30 a.m., doused two workers with the caustic chemical spray, grabbed the game cartridges and ran, according to San Diego Police Department Detective Gary Hassen.

The robber fled to the east in a white truck, he said.

About five minutes later, officers aboard a police helicopter spotted a pickup matching the description of the getaway vehicle and tailed the truck as the man drove to a Japanese restaurant on Kearny Villa Road, Hassen said.

Officers arrested Fiel at the eatery, which is owned by his family, a short time later.

Officers recovered the stolen property -- including the fourth installment of the popular "Grand Theft Auto" game, released at midnight -- and returned it to the store, Hassen said.
