Friends, Family Mourn Man Killed In Big Rig Crash

An East County family is mourning the death of a man killed when a big rig crashed through his back yard.

Authorities said Kevin Vicary was killed when a big rig slammed through his backyard fence and sent him into his swimming pool.

Vicary and his 2-year-old daughter were cleaning the pool just before noon Monday, authorities said.

The truck barely missed Vicary's daughter, according to authorities.

A passerby pulled Vicary out of the swimming pool, but Vicary died later at the hospital.

Vicary, a married father of three, often spent time sprucing up his home that he had bought a few years ago, family members said.

"We built a fence together so we could share a nice fence ... that's what he liked to do, what he died doing," said a family friend.

The chain of events began when a minivan ran a red light and struck the semi truck, authorities said.

The big rig swerved and hit two other cars before crashing into the fence and going into the pool, according to authorities.

Authorities said they are still conducting interviews to determine if anyone will be charged in the incident.
