UPDATED: 8:34 am PDT April 15, 2008

Escondido police searched Tuesday for witnesses to a traffic accident that killed a 92-year-old San Marcos man.

The man was walking across Escondido Boulevard headed east on Mission Avenue when a red Geo Prizm traveling south on Escondido Boulevard struck him at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, said Escondido police Lt. Mike Loarie.

Paramedics took the man to a nearby hospital, where he died about 20 minutes later from head and body injuries, according to Loarie.

The driver of the Geo, 22-year-old Pascual Paublo Sebastian of Escondido, stopped at the scene and waited for authorities, Loarie said, adding that no arrests have been made and officers were still trying to determine who was at fault.

Sebastian was not injured.

The name of the man who died was not immediately released.

Police have asked anyone who may have seen the accident to call 760-839-722.
