Doctors who examined a 17-year-old girl allegedly attacked by her 16-year-old boyfriend in Clairemont determined that the victim suffered 27 stab wounds to her back, a San Diego police sergeant said Sunday.

The girl was driven by her mother to a fire station at Clairemont Drive and Cole Street shortly after 4 p.m., Sgt. Bob Dare said.

She was assaulted in front of her apartment complex at 4851 Cole St., where officers found a broken steak knife and blood trail, Dare said.

The girl was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

The boyfriend was arrested in the 2000 block of Via Las Cumbres in Linda Vista about an hour after the stabbing, Dare said. He was treated for a cut to his hand.
