Local Man Claims Virgin Mary Appears On Marble Slab

A Spring Valley man said that he feels closer to Mary -- the mother of Jesus -- after she appeared to him in a slab of marble.

People have often said that God works in mysterious ways -- so much so that His name appeared in a woman's zucchini.

Jesus has made mysterious appearances, too, on items like a spoon, a wooden fence and a garage floor.

Others have seen the Virgin Mary in a pretzel form, on a turtle shell and now a slab of marble.

"What we're seeing now is the wall. Trying to focus my camera, playing with it, and then suddenly I saw the image of Holy Virgin Mary," said Alvaro Centeno.

Centeno said he saw Mary as he was fidgeting with his video camera.

"And then suddenly I saw that small image there and I looked at it closer and then I just focused with this," said Centeno.

He can't say where the marble is because there are no cameras allowed there. Centeno insisted that the white spot in the marble is the Holy Virgin Mary.

"Most of the time I get goose bumps on my skin because of thinking of it. I can't sleep. I've been losing sleep because I was thinking what to do," said Centeno.

This is not the first time someone has seen the image of Mary or Jesus in an object. And while the faithful see something, others aren't so sure.

"Some people that look at the picture, they don't believe that something is there but I have a hard time showing them," said Centeno.

A Catholic priest told 10News off camera that people of faith could see Mary, Jesus or God in just about anything if they wanted to.

However, the priest doubted the "Marble Mary" was a miracle.

Centeno disagreed, and said he thought Mary was reaching out to him so that he could help others.

"Maybe the Holy Virgin Mary wants me to remind people about her," said Centeno.

Centeno knows others have seen her as well -- in necklaces and grilled-cheese sandwiches.

"One time I saw an image in the window of Virgin Mary and I said, 'Mine is better, I think,'" said Centeno.
