EL CAJON, Calif. -- A 29-year-old Los Angeles County man was in custody Friday on suspicion of abducting a woman from an El Cajon roadside at knifepoint and raping her, authorities reported.

Jesse John Garcia of Palmdale allegedly approached the 24-year-old woman after she got off a bus in the 1200 block of East Main Street about 9 p.m. Thursday night, El Cajon police Lt. Tim Henton said.

When the woman tried to walk away, Garcia allegedly put a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her and forced her into his car. He then allegedly drove her to a secluded area and raped her, Henton said.

The attacker then stole the victim's purse and released her, the lieutenant said.

About 11:30 p.m., a patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the victim's description of her assailant's car and made a traffic stop in the 500 block of East Washington Avenue, Henton said.

Police brought the victim to the area, and she identified Garcia as the man who had allegedly attacked her.

Garcia was booked into county jail on suspicion of kidnapping, rape and robbery.
