VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -- Authorities released the names Friday of a man and woman killed when the ninja-style motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with a car at high speed on a rural North County route.Ramona resident Andrew Gardenhire, 23, and 24-year-old Lisa Marrazzo of Murrieta died at the scene of Thursday night's crash in the 30400 block of Valley Center Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and county Medical Examiner's Office.Gardenhire was piloting the southbound Honda CVR motorcycle at more than 100 mph when he veered into the path of an oncoming 2002 Toyota Corolla near Mac Tan Road about 7:20 p.m., CHP public affairs Officer Eric Newbury said.
Gardenhire apparently braked and made a desperate, futile attempt to swerve clear of the sedan, Newbury said. The collision disintegrated the motorcycle."There were pieces of it everywhere," Newbury said. The car also was totaled. Its driver, a 50-year-old San Diego man who was on his way to Harrah's Rincon Casino at the time of the accident, was "very shaken" but uninjured, the officer said. Both Gardenhire and Marrazzo were wearing helmets.
