VISTA, Calif. -- A man was in custody Wednesday on suspicion of packaging heroin for sale in the presence of his two young children in a Vista hotel room, sheriff's officials said. San Diego County sheriff's deputies were called to a room at the La Quinta Inn at 630 Sycamore Ave. around 3 p.m. Tuesday after one of the room's occupants turned in bed sheets soaked in blood to the housekeeping staff, said Sgt. Joe Mata. Deputies arrived and found Fernando Bello, 35, in a bathroom cutting and packaging heroin and Eleazar Godinez, 32, in the main part of the room with two children, ages 2 and 6, Mata said.
Bello is the father of the two children, who were turned over to Child Protective Services' Drug Endangered Children Unit, according to Mata. Deputies also found fresh blood on a bed mattress, along with around six grams of heroin, scales, packaging material and other drug paraphernalia, Mata said. An investigation is under way to determine where the blood on the sheets and mattress came from, according to Mata. Both Bello and Godinez have been booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of possession of heroin, possession for sales of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment. Their bonds have each been set at $225,250 and, according to the sheriff's Web site, they are tentatively scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Vista courthouse.
