SAN DIEGO -- Record numbers of San Diegan's are walking into sheriff's stations to get more information on sex offenders who may be living near them, 10News reported.

The Megan's Law database lists more than 95,000 registered sex offenders in California.

Information includes the high-risk or serious sex offender's name, aliases, photograph, physical description, ethnicity, date of birth, scars, marks and tattoos, registered sex offenses and county and zip code based on last registered address.

"I have a 7-year-old daughter and I live in Golden Hill and I'm interested only in zip codes," concerned parent Robert Newnham said.

Newnham looked at the Megan's Law database Web site of registered sex offenders for the first time Friday.

"I find it disturbing, especially being a parent," Newnham said.

Newnham isn't the only concerned parent. The recent disappearances of Danielle van Dam, Jahi Turner, Elizabeth Smart and Samantha Runnion have parents doing everything they can to protect their children.

Since January, 765 people have visited local sheriff's stations to view the data, compared to only 239 people all of last year.

People wanting to get the information from the Megan's Law database are required to sign an affidavit promising not to use the information to harass the registered offender.
