SAN MARCUS, Calif. -- More than 5,000 signatures in support of a San Marcos ballot initiative that would require a public vote on most land-use changes in the city's general plan were being vetted Monday.City Clerk Susie Vasquez must verify that at least 3,042 of the 5,230 signatures turned in by initiative supporters on Monday are valid before handing the initiative over to the county Registrar of Voters, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. If approved, the initiative could appear on the November ballot.
San Marcos has grown significantly in recent years, with major retail hubs and houses being built, and the initiative would make it harder to bend general plan to the will of developers.
