Abducted Pregnant 16-Year-Old Returned To Family

UPDATED: 5:46 pm PDT March 11, 2008

A 16-year-old South Bay girl who was missing for two days after allegedly being abducted at knifepoint by her ex-boyfriend was found in Baja California and returned unharmed to her family early Tuesday.

Chula Vista resident Ashlee Crocitto, who is four months pregnant, was turned over to U.S. law enforcement officers shortly after midnight, as was her alleged abductor, 20-year-old Carlos Antonio, officials reported.

Acting on intelligence developed by U.S. investigators, Mexican authorities found Antonio and the girl last night in the home south of Tijuana where a relative of the suspect lives.

Ashlee was reunited with her family early Tuesday morning, Chula Vista police spokesman Bernard Gonzales said. The suspect, meanwhile, was jailed on suspicion of kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.

Antonio allegedly abducted the teenager from her mother's home Saturday morning. An Amber Alert, in which descriptions of the missing pair were displayed on freeway billboards, was issued the next day.

During her absence, the girl called home several times to say she was all right, officials said.
