CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- A man convicted of raping and pimping teenage girls was sentenced Wednesday, 10News reported.Darren Hilton, 28, was charged with 11 felonies, including rape, pimping, forced oral copulation and performing lewd acts on a child.Hilton was sentenced to 77 years to life in prison, but his family said they are not done fighting.
"(He) always stayed out of trouble. He was a very quiet person. He stayed in the house all the time with my mother and grandmother," said Dalton Hilton.Dalton said his little brother is a good person.Darren was raised in a military family and often helped his mother, working with troubled teenagers.Family members were dismayed as they heard Judge Alvin Green sentence Darren. He said nothing, sitting still until the family's pastor read a letter on their behalf."The friends of the family know Darren as a helpful and caring person. He spent most of his time at home," said the pastor.Dalton said, "It made me feel … I felt helpless. There's nothing I can do."Deputy District Attorney Rick Clabby said, "Anytime you deal with one of these cases where you have a female, especially an underage female, being sexually assaulted in a forcible way as these females were, it becomes very emotional."Clabby said Hilton's sentence matches his crimes, which were against girls between 14 and 16 years old.Hilton tried forcing four teenagers to prostitute themselves in Chula Vista and National City, authorities said.Investigators said they even found books and videotapes about how to pimp inside Hilton's home."Mr. Hilton earned it. He is responsible for his decisions, he's responsible for his choices and the court sentenced him according to the law," said Clabby.Hilton's family disagreed and vowed to fight."We don't think that all the facts were presented and we don't think that they were presented fairly," said Dalton. "I don't think that this will be the last time that they hear about this case because we're definitely going to be forging ahead."The family said they would hire a new attorney to handle Darren Hilton's appeal. In the meantime, Hilton has been transferred to Donovan State Prison to begin his sentence.
