Man Admits Stealing Girl's Underwear

A Mexican national admitted Wednesday that he broke into a Vista house and stole a 14-year-old girl's underwear, and he agreed as part of a plea bargain to lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Efrain Omar Cristobal, 29, pleaded guilty to residential burglary of an occupied house and will face up to six years in state prison when he's sentenced April 9 by Judge Daniel Goldstein.

The girl testified in a preliminary hearing that she returned from school to her Dorsey Way home around 2:50 p.m. Jan. 16 and found her bedroom windows open, with the curtains flapping in the wind.

A renter came to her crying and said a man had been in the house, the girl said.

When she returned to her bedroom, she looked out the window and saw a long-haired man outside looking at her, she said.

She said he moved the blinds out of the way and put his head in the opening of the window. She testified that she screamed, grabbed her little sister and ran from the house.

Both she and the renter identified the defendant in court.

Sheriff's Deputy Douglas Downes testified that Cristobal was apprehended a couple of blocks away. When he patted the defendant down, he found two unused condoms, a pair of girls' panties and a human hair preserved in clear tape, the deputy said.
