SAN DIEGO -- Navy and Coast Guard personnel came to the rescue Friday of a man found drifting in the ocean off the coast of Point Loma on a body board.

The man was spotted floating more than a mile offshore around 6 a.m., according to U.S. Coast Guard public affairs.

A small Navy boat picked up the man, after which USCG personnel aboard a 33-foot vessel was dispatched to take him back to shore, officials said.

The man, whose name and condition were not released, was admitted to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia.

It was unclear how the man wound up in the water.
