SAN DIEGO -- A former Helix High School band director who had sex with a 17-year-old male student begins probation Wednesday.

Jessica Kahal, 22, was sentenced to three years probation and 400 hours of volunteer work Wednesday. She had entered a guilty plea.

Also Wednesday, a former La Jolla Country Day School basketball coach was sentenced for having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

In that case, Cesar Don Juan Flores, 27, will serve 180 days in custody of a work furlough facility. He also pleaded guilty.
