Earthquake Hits Baja California

SAN DIEGO -- No damage or power cuts were reported in San Diego or Imperial counties from the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Mexico's Baja California, authorities said.The quake hit at 11:12 p.m. on Friday, about 16 miles southeast of the border town of Mexicali, and 105 miles east of downtown San Diego, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.The quake was widely felt in San Diego County.
A firefighter in Calexico, a U.S. town just across the border from Mexicali, said there were no reports of damage or other incidents in the area overnight or Saturday morning.San Diego Gas & Electric also reported no earthquake-related outages.The earthquake reportedly caused widespread power outages around Mexicali, and led to evacuations at some factories, Mexican authorities said.No injuries were reported in Mexicali, a city of about 850,000 residents and capital of Baja California. Cracks in two highway bridges were reported there.
